Chocolate book joanne harris6/4/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Anouk watches, eyes wide, a yellow balloon in one hand and a toy trumpet in the other, from between a shopping-basket and a sad brown dog. There is a febrile excitement in the crowds which line the narrow main street, necks craning to catch sight of the crepe-covered char with its trailing ribbons and paper rosettes. A warm wind for February, laden with the hot greasy scents of frying pancakes and sausages and powdery-sweet waffles cooked on the hotplate right there by the roadside, with the confetti sleeting down collars and cuffs and rolling in the gutters like an idiot antidote to winter. The truth is though, that the film and the book have many differences which is why one cannot experience one the same way as the other Chocolat became a tantalizing sensation and was eventually made into a film with an all star cast which is why so many people in the west know the film better than the book. Written in 1992 by French/English author Joanne Harris. It’s warm, it’s inviting, it’s mysterious and it’s loving. ![]() This story is everything that a feel good book needs to to be. If this book was to be summarized in one sentence it would be that….because what could be so harmless…so innocent…as chocolate. ![]()
